Every Shot Counts (Health Campaign) – December 2017
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Service and Computer Industries through the channel marketing program with NCR sponsored a Hepatitis B vaccination drive for over 4 local companies , this drive came to our attention after the Ugandan health ministry released a report that the country is highly endemic with 10% national prevalence of hepatitis B infection, rates varying across the country from 4% in the southwest and 25% in the Northeast.
According to world health organization, Hepatitis B is a serious disease that can result in long term health problems, including liver damage, liver cancer all resulting into death.
Hepatitis B virus infection is highly endemic in Uganda, with transmission occurring in childhood and adulthood. More than 1.4 million adults are chronically infected and the numbers keep on raising daily.
The virus is spread through
- Having sex with an infected person
- From birth
- Sharing needles and syringes
- Sharing items such as toothbrushes with an infected person
- Direct contact with the blood or open sores of an infected person
Because we care for peoples wellbeing and health, we then decided to take part in this drive. Service and Computer Industries through its NCR ambassadors program then contracted NORVIK Hospital and AAR health services to carry out the vaccinations which was done as direct reach out to local organizations and companies which could not afford to do this. The Campaign (Every shot Counts – Your Health Matters) involved screening of the hepatitis B virus before the shot, HIV checkup, BMI, Lipid Test, Sugar level among others.
